Why keep a German dental bonus record?

The German dental bonus record documents regular dental examinations. For people with statutory health insurance in Germany, this evidence may later qualify them for a higher subsidy towards dental prostheses. It is neither additional insurance nor a promise that every treatment will be paid for.

Document the examination

From age 18, the bonus record requires at least one examination per calendar year. For ages 12 to 17, examinations within individual preventive care are documented in each half of the calendar year.

A check-up is not a cleaning

Professional dental cleaning is a separate service. Its invoice does not replace the required examination record. A shorter clinical recall interval may be appropriate for an individual.

Keep the record

Five or ten years of documented regular examinations can increase the subsidy. The insurer checks the individual entitlement. Missing entries can only be added for examinations that actually took place and were recorded.

Often confused

Dental bonus record or insurer reward programme?

The dental bonus record provides evidence for a possible prosthetic subsidy bonus. A general insurer reward programme is a separate scheme with its own conditions.

Quick answers
What if the booklet is lost?

A practice can confirm examinations actually recorded in its files in a replacement booklet. Appointments that never took place cannot be added.

Does yearly mean exactly every twelve months?

For the adult bonus record, the calendar year counts. An appropriate clinical examination interval is agreed separately for the individual.

Does the record replace home care?

No. It documents examinations, not permanently healthy teeth or a particular treatment result.
