At SMILE meets DESIGN, we consider your teeth in relation to your face, lips and gums. Healthy supporting tissues, a stable bite and preserving your natural tooth substance are equally important.
Sometimes cleaning or whitening may be enough. In other cases, teeth straightening, a tooth-coloured addition or ceramic veneers may be options. We start with your wishes and an examination. Postponing treatment or choosing not to have it can also be a sensible decision.

Discoloured teeth
Surface deposits may already be removed with professional dental cleaning . For a lighter natural tooth colour, following a check, Teeth whitening may be an option. Fillings and ceramics do not lighten with it.
Misaligned front teeth
First, we assess tooth positions and your bite. Aligner treatment could gradually align teeth. Whether aligners are sufficient or a different orthodontic approach is needed depends on the findings.
A gap between front teeth
The cause, tooth proportions and available space help guide the decision. Teeth straightening, composite bonding or Veneers could offer different approaches.
Edges, shape & size
For small defects, a direct addition with composite may be enough. We establish whether ceramics would be appropriate based on remaining tooth substance, forces and the extent of the change.
Visible old fillings
First, we check whether the filling is intact. Depending on its condition, adjustment, repair or replacement may be appropriate. A colour difference alone does not determine the treatment.
A single dark tooth
A new colour change should first be examined, for example after an accident or previous Root canal treatment. Only once the cause is clear do we discuss options for correcting the colour.

We discuss
what might change.
During the consultation, we talk about what bothers you and what you would like. We examine teeth, gums and your bite. Existing conditions or defective restorations may require preliminary treatment.
Depending on the question, photographs, videos and an intraoral scan add to the planning. Smile Design could illustrate a planned change. For veneers, a mock-up may also be useful: a temporary preview of the tooth shape in the mouth. A simulation or trial is a planning aid, not a promise of the eventual result.
We also discuss the work involved, possible risks and aftercare. Following treatment, individually agreed checks and tailored oral care support ongoing progress.

Which treatment suits my concern?
An examination and a discussion of your expectations help narrow this down. Similar visible changes can have different causes. We therefore compare the options, what they involve and their limitations before you decide.
Do teeth need to be prepared for aesthetic changes?
That depends on the treatment. Whitening, for example, does not involve placing ceramic shells. Veneers may require preparation; in selected cases, a restoration without removing tooth substance may be an option. We explain in advance which changes to the tooth would be planned and what alternatives exist.
Can several treatments be combined?
Yes, if the findings support it. Teeth straightening could, for example, precede veneers. Whitening and subsequent colour matching of fillings or ceramics also need to be coordinated. We agree the sequence and timeframe individually.
What does aesthetic treatment cost?
Costs depend on the examination, extent of treatment and any material and laboratory work. Private aesthetic services are charged according to the German dental fee schedule (GOZ). Before treatment starts, you receive an individual treatment and cost plan. Purely cosmetic services requested by you and their fees are agreed in writing beforehand; we discuss your questions before you decide.
Will my health insurance contribute?
Purely aesthetic measures generally have to be paid for privately. Where treatment is also medically necessary, the position may differ. Use the treatment and cost plan to clarify with your insurer before treatment whether and to what extent costs are reimbursed.
What matters after treatment?
Aftercare depends on the approach chosen. It may include checks, oral care guidance, professional cleaning or stabilising corrected tooth positions. We discuss the steps you need during planning.
